The Metinvest group completed the first phase of the overhaul of the 1700 hot rolling mill at the Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Ilyich. This was announced today by the Director General of the company Taras Shevchenko in a presentation for key customers of the company from 19 countries in Mariupol, the Ministry of Industry reports.

“Within the framework of the project, we received a new crimping reversing stand, as well as improved hydroscale breaking. Also, thanks to the reconstruction of heating furnaces, we will be able to maintain a uniform temperature along the entire length of the strip and thus ensure its uniform thickness,” he said.

Also, as part of the project, bearings were reconstructed in half of the finishing stands and new gearboxes were installed. "This will allow us to produce rolls up to 1.2 mm thick and provide a high-quality rolled product to the cold rolling workshop producing cold rolled coils and galvanized steel," said the general director of the enterprise.

In addition, due to the implemented measures, the yield of finished products increased to 97.5%, reducing material consumption. The project was implemented in partnership with the Austrian PrimetalsTechnologies. The project cost amounted to $ 100 million. Its implementation will increase the production of hot rolled coils at MMK them. Ilyich up to 2.5 million tons per year.

According to T. Shevchenko, in the future, the second stage of reconstruction is planned at the 1700 mill, which envisages the installation of another heating furnace and a roll winder, which will increase its production to 3.5 million tons per year, and the maximum roll weight - up to 32 tons.
