Enterprises for operations with scrap ferrous metals in January-November this year increased the procurement of scrap metal by 36.6% compared to the same period last year - up to 3 million 783.6 thousand tons.
As reported in the operational information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals ("UAVtormet") on Thursday, the export of scrap metal for the period amounted to 547.5 thousand tons, which is 16.6 times more than the same period in 2020 (33 thousand tons). Meanwhile, imports of scrap in January-November amounted to 21.3 thousand tons, which is 1.3% higher than in January-November 2020 (21.1 thousand tons). During the first 11 months of 2021, the supply of scrap metal to the metal companies of the country increased by 17.3% over the same period last year - to 3 million 55.9 thousand tons. The level of scrap stocks at metal companies as of December 1, 2021 was estimated at 150-155 thousand tons. As reported, scrap ferrous metal companies in 2020 reduced scrap metal procurement by 8.6% compared to 2019 - to 3 million 71.1 thousand tons. The export of scrap metal last year was 35.9 thousand tons, down 15% compared to 2019. Meanwhile, scrap imports for the period were 26.4 thousand tons, down 47.1% from 2019.
